I don’t have hubcaps as have empi wheels but yes sounds like was something rolling around in wheel which is why I took my drum apart to see if in brakes somewhere - thanks for suggestion.

Plus 1 for ^ as I had similar, strange noise as you describe turned out to be slightly loose hub nut.

  5. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

It doesn't leak, it slowly dries out - more quickly if you drive around with your handbrake on.

  7. I had something similar yesterday and Friday, the noise seemed to go away when things cooled down, and came back again after slowing down from speed for a couple of roundabouts or braking for queuing traffic. I wondered if a brake pad was getting hot then touching the drum thru' expansion, definitely a rotational noise. Thinking....Did I over adjust the handbrake cable? I'll check the hub nut too, thanks.

Went to Purbeck folk festival and had a great time over the weekend, including Show if Hands...great music, then went to Studland Bay area today in the drizzle, still beautiful. Traffic heading home on a Monday afternoon was mad... luckily all of it heading in the other direction, so our journey home was good

    Were you in Cambridgeshire today?

  14. I was not, sir.

  15. Well done @Zed and @theBusmonkey my nearside hub nut is loose

    I assume it's 46mm?

Do I need to check anything else or just tighten up and keep an eye on it?

Did a compression test and checked the spark plugs

I was wondering if this is the source of my hot running, @120°

    Plugs and pressure in bar

  18. I don't have anything that big, the Bug's is a mere tiddler at 36mm, still bigger than anything the RAC carry, I might add. The dreaded Amazon Prime to the rescue.

Drove from nice to Liguria Italy today via Monte Carlo and no more wheel noise but will check that hub nut when I can get my hands on a 46 mm wrench. Met the owner of this bus by French border who happens to own a vw garage in northern Italy but was on vacation.
