  2. Next dumb question from me - How can I check if my WO engine still has the original Cam, B&P’s, etc? Is there a specific serial number to look for?

    Cheers

  15. no that is looking good ... not all fan casings had the number on it my WO doesn`t.
You will be able to tell if its got the original bearings in it and original domed pistons (K&S), Its possible it would need a new cam/lifters anyway and you can buy new 914 cams ,

  16. Where the engine number is hard stamped to the case, at the base of the breather tower look for a VW recycle symbol. It's like an @ but with VW in the middle. If that is there its been reworked, if it's been reworked its highly unlikely to have 914 guts any more. To be honest if it's been reworked you'll be lucky to have a matching pair of heads let alone original spec guts
    :)
