Black widow spider in the downstairs loo!

Busily making a web, it's quite a big one and I recognise the web. It's hidden itself now so no pic yet. How the heck did that get there? Are these common in the UK?

there are few species of spider in the UK that look like black widows.....some are just common garden spiders with very dark markings.....false widows are pretty common darn sarf....
