    Hey guys
Like the title says how much oil do you need for an oil change?
Obviously going to attempt an oil change this week. I have a little Oil left but dont know if its enough.
Cheers for any help, oh also does anyone know where you can get hold of Morris Oil from?

  2. You're on dangerous ground here;)... What type of engine? You don't need or want Morris 30 grade.

Hey thanks Mark&Laura yes its standard 1600.
Whats wrong with the Oil @snotty ? I was under the impression its the best stuff about?

  5. It divides opinions that's all. Some people say don't use it others do. Personally I do and have done so for 8 years 30000miles. Put it this way I wouldn't throw it away now you have some!

There is only 1L left and I was going to get hold of some more. I have used it in the van and bug for past 6 months and it seems all good?

  7. Machine7 sell it for 18.75 for that 5 litre can. Cheapest I've seen it.

  8. Too thin. Go for 15W40 or (better) 20W50

As others have said you want 2.5l.
30w is too thin once it gets up to temperature, do you ever notice your oil light flickering at junctions after a long run?
    Go for a 15w40.

  10. If he wants to use 70's oil technology who are we to stop him? You can lead a horse to water an all that ............

  11. ^whs^ SAE goes like wee when hot and gluey when cold.
Us old gits can remember SAE 30 being around in the 60's too, that makes it very old technology :D

  12. I use Morris ,so far so good.....and breathe.

I used it for quite a while until I noticed the oil light. Changed to 15w40 and it ran noticeably cooler.
Remember, these engines are as much oil cooled as air cooled....

  14. "Wee" is the word I was looking for :)

If you like to live life on the edge, you can actually squeeze 3 litres into a type 1 with no ill effects. It helps dilute all the soot that's grinding your bearings to bits...

  15. I believe the proper term is "gnats pee" though more often than not abbreviated to "wee" for the benefit of those unfamiliar with the usage of the earlier unit of measurement "the gnat" .

  16. Gnats, and parts thereof, are actually official SI units...

  17. No
no I've never had my oil light come back on!

    Fair enough.
It'll still run cooler with 15w40 or 20w50 though....

  19. Just a Gnats cock!!
We are of a certain age!
