    That's rat's arse TW

  3. That's a colon. Two dots is a colon; a dot above a comma is a semi-colon...

(and that row of dots is an elipsis, which is singular, the plural of which is elipses ...)

I try and get it right even in text messages, but I don't give a hoot if anyone else does as misuse causes some funny sentences on here.

I mentioned part of one but it wasn't the one that I was thinking of, fixation with all things Brown, anyway Nazi's, does Brown need a capital or is that just for names and things? and another thing that bugs me..... why don't you put a full stop after a question mark? -------> .

We are Nazis Ricky not Nazi's. Brown does not need a capital. A question mark has an integral full stop. Strewth!

I use to write for both the Citroën and Peugeot car club magazines. That was a great lesson in grammar. And then there was writing my Uni assignments. I do sometimes get confused but it is important to be able to write well. People really do look down on people who can't write.

Best piece of advice I was given was to read a quality tabloid publication and there started my love affair of the Sunday Times.

No I don't but I didn't want people looking down at me so I improved myself. I even went to evening classes to get a better grasp of written English. In this lifetime I've had to push and fight to prove to people that I can do this, that and the other. My Uni interview will go down as one of my high points. I don't need to give the details but it was funny.

My exam results from school were not good. I got an E for English. I wouldn't have got into Uni with that grade. I did get a grade 2 for my oral. I was chuffed with that. And my chosen topic?? The VW Beetle.

  18. Nice post :). Nowt like a bit of self-improvement - it's good for the soul...

  19. Only "proper nouns" need a capital letter: Birmingham, Rickyroo, Poobus, but not truck-stop, tights or stilettos. There's nothing special about them.

Unless you're German, in which case every noun has a capital letter. The Germans always get their punctuation right. And the French. And the Spanish. And, probably, the Moldavians. Maybe it's an English thing...

So I'm now not just looked down upon but also inferior. ;)

Well done on your uni stuff, going to uni would be the last thing I'd ever consider.
