Vwh repro rear tinware for 1600.......NOW THE KINGFISHERKUSTOMS TINWARE THREAD :-/

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by volkswombat, Oct 6, 2016.

  1. It fits between the 'normal' i.e. beetle tim and the T2 hole. You're right, by itself it's useless!

  2. Strike a light , talk about hard work.
One person there says theyve sold hundreds and not had a single complaint.
Another person really had no idea what I was on about, claimed I wasn't fitting it right (send him a pic so he can see what the problem is...... errr no I won't), after 10 minites he finally accepted the tinware is incomplete and he tried to convince me that what I needed was the stove pipe. Then said they make them them like that as many people fit twin carbs.

Ffs how do these people get through life?

Eh? That's cobblers. You can still fit twin carbs with complete tinware surely? Certainly on a type 1 engine.

  4. Cobblers is one of the milder words I'd use......

  5. I don't want to sound like I am dedefending them at all as I reckon the 'tin' should be one piece and complete, but I think they are right as in with certain twin carb linkages on the T1 you have to change the fanhousing, otherwise the two hoses out the front clash with the carb linkage. You then need to block up the two 50mm holes in the rear tin where the other end of these hoses go, for which people sell tin that is blanked off. However, as a supplier in the UK, I can't image why they think most people will be running no heating.....

I reckon the real reason is simpler. Their GRP is really thick, and the mouldings not great. I don't think they could replicate the rear tin round the pulley using whatever technique it is they have at there disposal, its just too complicated - look at how 'flowing' the corners are on the pieces you have, they are not clean angles.

When I bought mine it was either second hand or this, so I went with this having been offered a variety of holey second hand ones.

  6. Fair enough about the twin carb thing, but surely it would be better to supply ther full tinware and then if necessary blank the two heater pipes off ( in my opinion !)

As for how its made , it probably is pretty complicated to do, so surely do it in 2 sections then bond them together?

Screwing some metal tin to the GRP tin to make a full piece ( which is wehat he eventually to?!d me to do) personaslly I think would look guff.
Just seems half arsed to me!
Biggest beef though is that he was absolutely and completely bewildered by my claim that it wasn't a full piece of tin.
Anyway I'm getting a refund and another bunch of muppets struck off my recommended vendors list :easter:

  7. Sounds good.

In a way, I can understand why they've done it that way, as the inside bit will be fairly constant for a T1 (apart from stovepipe and hose holes), whereas the outer bit will vary between Beetles and Busses and whatever. But...it's not complete tinware. You'd think the guy would know that .

Fibreglass does not need powder coating as there are various paints that work on it, and flow coats and other gelcoat upgrades that are just as shineeey.

But I wouldnt touch fibreglass even high temperature stuff because I am sure my header goes so close to the tin (it touches the rib on the join between the Beetle and Bay window sections of the metal) that the fibreglass would eventually delaminate and turn back to nasty fluff. It rubs and gets very hot.

Kingfisher Kustoms are not my favourites : they sold me some EMPI branded swivel foot valve adjusters and then I discovered after I threw away the packaging and never got a receipt because I bought them at a show for cash ... that they go precisely three turns into the rocker arms and then the threads strip because they are Imperial Chinese, and made on a "special" lathe. At least it was the adjusters getting killed not the rocker arms.

  11. Still no refund......

A apparently their computers are all broken and haven't been able to use them today.

So I asked why they didn't just refund it the day they received the parcel (early afternoon). Oh well she's not allowed to do anything unless Dave tells her too.
Dave, I'm starting to think you're a knob.
    Now I'm getting angry.

  12. Have you considered going down the PayPal claim route? Goods not as described? Might be quicker.....

  13. I've told her I expect it tomorrow , if it doesn't appear I shall do that, good idea

  14. Yep - get on to Paypal. They're normally pretty slick.

Mr Knobhead will wake up once they're on his back.

  15. Mr Kknobhead may also be too thick to realise that the internet is great for dissatisfied customers to tell everybody about how crap his customer service is.....

  16. If you buy something for say £145 and it has freepostage would you think the postage cost is actually included in that price ,?

or that the supplier is really going to spend £20 of his profit to post it to you and pretend its free?

  17. Either way, it's not free to him, but I think these folk get a good deal from couriers.

  18. Humph... He refunded us £132.50... Less postage and re-stocking charge! Mr VW was not a happy camper when he phoned to complain. I think their Facebook page is going get some colourful reviews later.

  19. Well he must of fixed his computer just in time for end of day as my refund arrived, but minus £15.
