Looking at some of the vehicles that are classic vehicles now, I would never have guessed they would become classics when they were first out.

I think my fiat coupe is set to become a future classic, though I'd have to get the scratches sorted on mine to keep the value up :)

Trouble is anything vaguely old seems to get called a classic, things like Allegros & Marinas that were rubbish when they were new shouldn't be called classics, needs to be a proper car to start with, the list should be quite small!

Hmmmm, most modern cars are so 'designed' these days, aerodynamics for max speed with best fuel economy etc, that they largely end up looking much the same no matter who the manufacturer is... and they all look pants in silver. So it's got to be something that stands out from the rest, and in a cool colour....
How far can we go back in our effort to look for a 'future' classic. Anything 1990s onwards?
To be honest, it's going to have to be something that was a bit rubbish too, or else there'll be loads of them still around!
I had a couple of 3 series Volvos in the early 90s... not seen one of them in years but not really classic material...

Maybe 90's onward? Tho may stretch to 80's so I can include Capris :) not a Capri but I think this is a classic.

  8. To reach "classic" status the car has to have some desire in the future. This will be based around either cost (i.e. exotica) or perhaps rarity (ooohh look son - I had one of those when I was your age!) More than ever cars today are designed to be semi-consumable items... I can't see many cars now becoming classics unless they are a top spec performance model (i.e Focus RS) or are £££ Italian supercar type things...

I don't think we will have classics in the future as cars now are too sophisticated and similar

You might get design icons and very specialised cars like the McLarens but not your bog standard car

Does fit for purpose make a classic, even if not techy, or fancy?
