Collected Chips recon spare alternator. It's a Bosch 70amp unit.
95 quid for new bearings, clean test and voltage regulator from MC Alternators in Warrington.
Happy with that, Mark's reliable and straight up having done a few for me over the last 10 years.
It'll go on the Marmite shelf for me to forget about now...

Went and got it back from the garage that’s been promising to do some work to it for nearly 4 months.

Looks like it’s back to me doing all the work again bloody garages.

  8. Finally finished draining tank, then replace all fuel hoses from tank to carbs including new fuel filter.
    Bit cold under Tilly though.
Also noticed a lot of oil covering the reversing lights swith. Couldn't see any other oil spray so replaced the switch while under there.

No need to drain the tank if you are quick with a new piece of hose pre-clamped off to put over the tank spigot first.
And the oil over the reversing light switch will probably be dribbling down off the gear change rod - theres a lip seal on the gearbox nose that leaks, it gets everywhere...
Mine got worse when the main shaft bearing started spinning, eating metal and letting more gearbox oil move forwards through the gap left by the spinning bearing into the nose cone.

Sprayed underseal under the fuel tank area where the gearbox will go, and some Dynax around under and inside the nearside wheel arch, and generally blasted it everywhere to see how it sticks - discovered it is just slightly too viscous for my cheap compressor driven sprayer - the nozzle on the extension hose gives too much back pressure for the venturi to develop suction , and it didnt work until I replaced the extension hose with some 12mm ID garden hose ..
Adjusted the handbrake cables, so I dont forget that bit when I rush to put the gearbox back in.
Did a quick bit of filling around the place, and slapped some paint on it to keep the rain off it over the winter.

Painted a few bits. Alternator tin, oil cooler bracket, thermostat bracket, various brackets off the throttle linkage

    Tiny steps forward...

Edit: Oh, I've ordered an assorted pack of gasket paper. Anyone know what thickness for the alternator back plate? Or does it not really matter?

  12. I appreciate that but had a mini disaster earlier in the year when I inadvertently pulled the hose off the spigot, drained 20 litres over me and ended up with bad chemical burns on my right shoulder so took the long way round this time I had used Tilly and dropped the level to about 15 litres.
Had a nose around the gearbox couldn't see any leaks or dribbles so changed the switch just to be safe.

The gasket thickness isn’t critical; most are missing entirely.

Did a quick check in readiness for an MoT.... one sidelight is as bright as Einstein.... the other is as bright as me ... investigations required I think...

Rears? If the brake lights are the opposite, you have the wires mixed up. :)

No the front passenger side ... think it may well be an earthing issue.

  19. Got the fire wall off removed all the breathers, disassembled the fuel inlet filler to tank and that was a struggle, filler neck and steel pipe not a problem but removing the filler hose from the tank was a real struggle.
Eventually got it all pulled apart then too dark to start reassemble.
Any tips to make life a bit easier would be appreciated.

  20. Persevere. The tank filler hose is a right beggar. You may have to cut it off.
