when you get your tax reminder v 11 , I think o_O it states whether you need an MOT, gives a reference number attributable to that vehicle ( zafira ) and you can then proceed. The insurance is a separate issue. Oz presumably could never have taxed the golf , certainly on line as he wouldn’t have the vehicle specific ref no. ? He could tax the zafira as I don’t think it is a requirement for taxation.
Alls well that seems to have ended well .

As Said above, my mrs has managed to tax our Zafira twice without the correct insurance. This was part of the initial reason for this post. I was bell bent and determined that there must have been an issue/ mistake on the part of the insurance company, however, that little safeguard seems to be a relic of the past when we used to trudge up to the queue at the post office and stand in line with an old envelope and a fistful of sqished documents like the mot certificate and the cover note from the insurance and your renewal notice and I usually had my log book as well. If I took the log book , they’d say behind the counter “ Oh you don’t need that “ and if you didn’t take your logbook they’d ask where it was and tell you to come back with it
I thought there must be an error because we’d taxed this old motor. Wrong wrong wrong and wrong again, it’s a different age we live in now and I’m not even sure when this little change occurred as I was blissfully unaware until last week :gnome:.
Is this possibly why there are a lot of uninsured drivers about now? Or have I dreamt about hearing a story or two on social media about accidents with uninsured drivers? But thanks for your input, if nothing else, it reinforces my understanding that many others could be in the same situation. What a temptation to imagine that occasional blips like this would be a nice little extra profit margin for the underwriters, 0.5% of a squillion quid is loadsa money innit :)

  3. Taxing or SORNing vehicles nowadays has no link to insurance. I've just done two vespas, one MOT'd and roadworthy and one in bits with no sign of the last MOT, or anywhere near being roadworthy. Neither is insured.

It's become a very simply process online, something I never thought I'd say about the DVLA. They just need to get the historic status process sorted now....

  4. I’m stunned! I had no idea they didn’t check and was convinced they did! If it’s not exempt do you need an mot to tax it I wonder?

  5. I think the MOT is checked when you buy your road tax
