Pulled by the police today

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Patrick Nguyen, Apr 4, 2018.

  1. The days of a bit of friendly advice are going rapidly. The cops really are s##t scared of litigation and complaints and that includes a failure of a duty of care by not doing it by the book.
I'm glad I'm out. Everyone for themselves now and I'm looking for the life boat.

No one is questioning the legal aspect of this occurrence ...it's just the anti T2 comments made which is unnecessary

  4. the question of 'old' tyres, last year my mot tester said my mgb tyres were 8 years old and should be replaced straightaway as after a few years the tyres do deteriorate and small cracks appear in the side walls, then its time to change them. he was right and I took his advice.

a few years back I was at the Grill n Chill admiring the show and shine vans and one van had a lot of admirers and the couple who had just bought it were showing off the new interior, lovely engine and body paintwork. I had a bit of a nosy under and saw both front tyres were bald and shocked me rather. When the couple were on their own I had a quiet word about the bald tyres and they took offence and told me to bugger off and mind my own business.

Such noobs probably thought the tyres were meant to be like that because an "aircooled expert" who sold them the bus told them so.

  6. Along with making up 6 year tyre replacement laws, while good advice it's not true.

  8. Where does it say the date. Cant work it out on mine! They are quite old!

  9. There’s 40 million cars licensed for UK roads. How many transport police, say 10,000 max. So with holidays, and 3 shifts that makes about + - 2000 floating around at any one time.

Point Is there’s not many, so they have to look scary when they appear, or they would become as irrelevant as their numbers suggest. So they have to ‘be seen to’ act, it’s the job. If they let the tyre go, and you posted it on here, what message does that send ?

    Nonsense ;)

  11. it's a four digit code on the sidewall, normally in an oval. It will read something like (1417) that indicates week 14 of 2017.

  16. Should i change them? I have run two sets of wheels over the last 10 years and dont do many miles. No punctures and lots of tread, what do you think!

  17. maybe the 10 year old ones are decent rubber, where is the good rubber these days.

  18. Do they look like they have cracks in-between the treads or on the side walls (normally near the top where side wall and tread meet)? Rubber goes hard over time due to duty cycles (hot/cold/hot/cold repeat until bored) and UV.
Personal choice, you're not daft. No one can tell what the structure of a tyre is like inside, you could kerb a brand new tyre and split cords but you would look at it and think "wow got away with that" and carry on running it and never have a problem.

  19. Hi Barn.
For me it's the cream donut with caramel icing from Greggs. However I've been know to eat the month old scabby raspberry jam on from Happy Shopper.

They’ve probably had an internal memo regarding the new Mot ruling and to target a few old ‘death traps’ to get the word spread on social media and forums like this that there will be zero tolerance
