In fact you can't change the graphics, it's soldered into the chassis as is the processor. They do one with a better screen and faster video which works out at another £100-150. Changed a bit. Some say ARM, some say intel has better USB support... Buy one of these, or for ever drool over the next version you can concoct. What you arent getting is Displayport or Thunderbolt which would allow daisy chaining monitors. Just HDMI.
Indeed, but it's like engine building - you have stop somewhere. I'm trying hard to keep the whole setup to a laptop and an audio interface.
Apple. The specs on offer are like every other laptop maker in that to get some things you want you have to buy stuff you don't need and at the apple shop, that's particularly expensive. You can keep saying "why not apple?" and I can keep giving the same basic answer if you wish which comes down to paying £800-1000 more for basically the same thing plus a load of features I do not want, a smaller screen and a representation of an apple.
I hear what your saying but I’ve had pc’s & Mac’s. Pc = rebuild/reinstall every 3 years Mac = ?? I’ve got a 10 yo Mac Pro a 7 year old Mac Pro and they both work better than my windows laptop. I have a windows desktop simply due to work, otherwise I wouldn’t bother. For what you say you want it for a mac is what you really need. Can you perhaps buy a second hand one if you begrudge (as would I) buying new?
Not all of Apples $2Tn valuation is market sentiment, a lot of it is their fanboi victims cash where they paid too much..
I’ve been reading this thread with considerable curiosity; I certainly cannot offer any assistance as the majority of the words appear to be Klingon language. Some I’ve attempted to Google search on my laptop, I think it’s an Asus running Widows 10, and I’m still none the wiser. Some like ‘fanboi’ I’ve learnt something, soon to be forgotten though as I’ll never use it. I’m sticking to building engines. And I seem to have mislaid my Nokia ‘phone. Nothing smart about that.
I expect in the next 5 years the worlds biggest tech brand will be Huawei, spurred on by Donald Trump's ranting to reduce dependence on the USA to zero, so the USA will lose all influence over them ...
I find that incredibly offensive. Most Mac users (especially the ones I personally know) are industry professionals. The percentage of Starbucks Surfers is quite low. Now stop whinging and just buy something that works for you for God's sake.
Well I find it incredibly offensive that on a thread asking for windows laptop advice, despite repeatedly spelling out that I do NOT have the money to splash on a Mac, no matter how many how many times I repeat it, smart arses suggest I spend £1k more than I have ...on a mac. Please stop winging on about macs!
To be clear I did a lot of searching for you, for windows laptops at that! seeing as you clearly didn’t know what you were talking about. I’m not a fanboy in the least but I do believe in right tools for the right job. I can’t believe how cantankerous someone can get when asking for help and not liking the advice they get. Don’t worry, I’ll be ignoring any further requests from you for advice in the future.
It's like asking about getting a bay for £10k and being repeatedly advised to buy a £20k T5. Do you get that? You insulted me first buster, read back at how many times in this thread I politely tried to explain that I didn't want a mac. Over and over and over.
Sorry, just noticed this. That desktop I have only needs ventilation front and rear. I guess it sucks it in and then blows it’s out. It’s quite an old machine now but it’s still i5 256ssd and 16gb ram. I had a few of these and gave them away to friends.
I think your problem steve is that you need a laptop that you can buy ‘anywhere’ (hardware as you say is the same) but the software you need is where win10 fail. There’s a group on here recently that talked about other OS apart from windows. Maybe that’s worth looking into. Ubuntu and some others. I’m afraid I don’t know. Also it’s the stupid sales hype next week, Black Friday which normally starts at the beginning of next week. Whatever you buy, maybe you’d be better off waiting until then.
