Started up at -3.5C went off to the shops in it.
By the end if the trip it had warmed up to about -1C and about 3 degrees C on top of the dashboard..

I think I dont have the heat exchanger flaps quite right.. or they have fallen apart again internally... they are a git to get apart and repair and reassemble.. 0.5mm thin tin and welds in close proximity.

  2. Right. No faults, just a v. low leisure battery, causing Ebers not to fire up.

    Toasty warm again now

  3. Had a good time today installing the new wiper motor, bit cold but enjoyable.

I used the excellent kit and instructions from @snotty and it went in great.

The wipers actually wipe the windscreen now, and two speeds, luxury!

  5. Your wipers are sitting rather high, BTW. Could move them down a bit!

  6. Yeah, needs a little adjustment I agree. Looks better in in person than the pic shows.

    Thanks

  7. Had a final poke around my Ebers before putting it to bed. 3 x "Battery Undervoltage" plus one "External Temp Sensor Open Circuit" (which was me). Always checking up on you, that thing

Cold fingers and small wires don't mix well, but I've managed to put back together my steering column and connected all the wires and so far, they work! Now to swap a few bulbs in the dash and put the (MG) rev counter in....brrrrrrr

Pulled the thermostat down 5mm as hardly any air flow comes out the warm air vents when the engine is first cold started.. Also it takes a long time to warm up in the cold. Still not used to the correct length "new" thermostat- the old one was a different length where I soldered a new threaded piece on top after the old thread wore out.

Undoing m6 bolts to get the cover plate off, wearing thin nitrile gloves outdoors today I lost all sense of touch.. putting the bolts back took ages...should have warmed up the engine first..

Will test it tonight, driving down to the works Christmas dinner about 20 miles away, not drinking, coming back home tonight.
Then off to Bristol on a one day trip to pick up my daughter tomorrow..

  12. Down to the nursery, stuck a Christmas tree in the back of him, then sat in a traffic jam on the A303 where some poor bugger had managed to somersault his car into the hedgerows

  13. Fired him up for the first time since September, pretty much fired first time . Loaded up an old bed and mattress and headed for the tip. Missed it by 5 mins , he's now sitting on the drive still loaded up and covered in snow.

After a round trip to Portsmouth on Thursday night, Completed round trip about 220 miles to Bristol and back on Friday. Issues- washer jets froze up, thawed and froze again. And the LED headlights were reduced by road filth (despite wiping it off) to about the same as classic halogen H4s..
Fortunately the screen washers stayed working after dark, I had added more concentrated fluid too.

Some of the A36 was done by guesswork. A Tesla would have gone off the road as the algorithm was you had to keep driving just to the left of the oncoming lights . No kerb, no road to bushes contrast.
And a random unlit broken down hire Luton van just left on a corner..

  15. I remember that it said in the original owner’s manual you can use diluted methylated spirit in screen washer bottle
Might help you with your long winter run

Ha, make sure the dilution is plenty of water... I remember years ago a friend tried this in his old car - a Mk1 escort, or maybe the Datsun 120Y coupe - we were fairly buzzing by the end of the journey!!
