I did think about brush painting rustoleum… and probably should’ve stuck with that idea. But no, it’s being sprayed.

Prep in the noisy cupboard is a horrendous job! Never again.

  4. Who knows. Best to check. Last time I looked at my flares pic, the Japanese used SAE flares, but with metric thread unions. Might well have changed.

  5. A handy guide. You may have JIC 37* jobs.

  6. If you haven't died of hypothermia and are rattle-canning, worth heating the panels up with a hot air gun before giving them a squirt. And get your thermals on!

Just get the Sealer one, it covers several pipe sizes and flare types.

Made a crank pulley puller .. three holes in box section ..
One bolt, two m8 screws ( wider heads so they sit properly on the back of the flange of the hub rather than bending the pulley ) .. three nuts one welded on badly. Three 8mm holes drilled in a row, centres spaced 40mm.

Had fun putting the pulley on and taking it off a few times. Its a lot easier when you take the washer off the big bolt first..that time I did it by painfully undoing the big bolt one flat at a time..

At least now I know that all the oil that left my engine blew out of the breather pipe or went straight out of the exhaust when the piston melted..as nothing round the pulley..

Could you not just turn the big bolt?

I could, but the spanner needed flipping over for every 1/6 of a turn.

  11. Or an easier option , spend a couple of minutes removing the tin and get a socket on it ??

    :hattip:

My rear tin has all the screws and the two extra little heat riser covers so its more of a pain. Plus owing to welded repair bits on the front edge it is a git to fit.
Normally you only take the pulley off because you need to work on the engine , but this time I just want to work on the pulley itself, drilling and tapping some holes to lock the timing wheel.

The previous pulley was pretty well wrecked by trying to get it off - it was a Brazilian pulley that was very tight on the crank.
To get a straight pull on that with a two leg puller really needed removing the 4 into 1 exhaust header as well.
So this time I sanded a tiny bit of metal from the inside of the bore, so now the new Brazilian pulley fits without getting wedged on.

  14. Frozen to death yet ;)?

I'd give your battery tray a good dollop of paint, then Waxoyl/Dynax etc. The little buggers never stop rotting.

  15. Jumped in van, fired up the old Eberspacher, and the bugger refuses to fire up. Noooooo.

Out with the diag box when I can actually feel my fingers.

It's probably the cold weather that's causing the problem. Best wait until the summer....it will be fine then!:D
