Fixing the B pillar First fit of the arch After fettling The curve on the sliding door never did match that of the B pillar and there's some old repairs on it that could be better, so there will be a new bottom half skin at some point
"Arch sorted with some jiggery pokery, looks like previous welding was to scrape it through an mot, the collapsed jacking point is new but they forgot to weld it on .... Inner inner sill and inner sill I will repair. Rear corners turned up but Dform panel has been sent back and no one knows why it'll return next week "
Sill repairs And started on the sliding door skin Apparently the deformation panel had been travelling around the county for the last week in the delivery van, as it had the wrong address on it
Rear arch repair And continuing with rear arch "Plan is to remove the corner and prep for new one but sort out chassis leg and engine bay before fitting the corner. So far so good"
Will you have much to do when you get the van back Norris or will Sandy put it all back together for you?
I've not discussed much beyond metal and paint with him at the moment, but heading up for a visit tomorrow. I'll have a chat with him then. We'll have to see what the budget will allow I'll be making a new interior - I don't think it's worth refitting the old one. And of course I'll need to get the engine back in, could probably do with new CV gaiters and an overhaul of the brakes. Oh, and sorting out the leisure battery wiring spaghetti
So true, bodywork and paint is sadly not even halfway there and inevitably makes things that looked good before look shabby.
Oh yes, some photos from yesterday and another new jacking point that hadn't been welded on! Mrs Norris and I took a jaunt up there today to see progress, hand some more parts over and have a chat. Sandy is such a nice chap. I took a snap of the scrap pile...
Looking better every day. I started off thinking I needed to replace one jacking point but ended up replacing all of them on my double cab. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Time for the deformation panel to go on And a lovely fit on the driver's door We're about 3/4 of the way round the bottom now. Just the O/S rear arch backwards to go in terms of the major metal Finally got the builder round today to look at the garage entrance, which needs a bit more headroom to fit the van inside. Things are moving fast!
I wonder why he made the deformation closing panels so short? The other thing is I've always been under the impression that part panel repairs must be fully seem welded, it's an MOT rule. I get that this is a nightmare with distortion and nobody will ever know, but still... Make sure you flood all those not fully welded panels with your chosen anti-corrosion muck because I didn't (for one reason or another) and this happened because damp got through from the inside and blew in the sun. There were a lot less gaps than your guy is leaving. That goes for all the part panels he's "tacked" on.
Where I could get at them and seam seal, no problems, but the rear arch panels have some inaccessible parts. Really, I'm impressed by his no messing approach and his panel fitting/ lining up is top dollar. Nice job!
