He has glued the rear arches and any other non-load bearing panels rather than welding them, to avoid burning through the primer in inaccessible places. That should minimise future corrosion That's how modern cars are held together
I see from engine bay original colour is tiagra green my last bus was that colour - are you going back to original or keeping yellow? My current bus Marino yellow so I am torn between the two!
We toyed with the idea of a colour change but in the end decided that Marino yellow is the jolliest of all VW colours, and makes us smile when we see it I think nearly every Devon conversion left the VW factory green The engine bay will be pastel white btw to improve general visibility in there
All good choices - enjoying watching the progress - I think from pics doing a very thorough and comprehensive job - happy to see it transform
Back to the MOT thing, it's just when you replace PART of a panel - modern cars are not made from part panels.
It has had a new deformation panel, but that doesn't include those closing panels at the end. I'm not that familiar with the anatomy to know how the replacement compares to the original factory panel. I'll certainly ask him about it
I'm very familiar, I've made lots of them. If you imagine what you see in your photos moved up so the top sits inside the front panel lip that's where the top should be... but then it would be too short at the bottom. It's too short is the issue, I'm surprised he didn't knock one up the right size if he bought those or you supplied them, they're easy to make. The reason I'm surprised is because of his excellent panel work/ lining up everywhere else.
While I'm being critical I'd have plug welded it on to keep the panel line he welded. Stupid really - you'll never see it when the bumper is fitted. lol Just these two little panels, maybe he'd set his sights on getting "so far" before he packed up for the day, it's blummin hard work renovating buses and he's going at a great pace considering how well it all looks!
I'm amazed by the pace of this one! Many of the same repairs I need to do so very helpful pics, thanks for sharing
Enjoyed reading through this and impressive to see the pace you can go if you really know what you're doing. Love it!
He's really ripping through it. It's probably going to slow a bit now, with some of the more intricate jobs like round the windows and gutters
Masked off the pop top... And around the gutters we go. Previously it's apparently had a new rear section and then bodged the rest of the way round
