Good man ...If you have a front belly pan which it looks like you do , make sure you check for tightness on that nut every now and again as it's out of view .
When i first bought my bus i took the belly pan off and that nut was dangerously loose .
Now i don't know wether the nut was never tightened properly or it worked it's way loose ,but ever since a check it every year .

Started on it at 3pm as its finally sunny outside.
By 5pm I had dropped the engine and gearbox and started on draining the oil out of the gearbox.
Some metal slivers on the gearbox drain plug, the oil was pretty metallic looking..

Definitely time for more than just a bodge up..

  10. Why?

  11. oil pressure issues, metallic oil after 3 changes since the rebuild, the pump the company fitted had a crack accross it and i couldn't get it out in situ, I'll strip it,get the micrometers out and go from there.

    i literally never, ever stop.

I've had a Marmite year with the van. it hurts. but you gotta keep going

  12. Removed the front grill from the air-box for the first time in 15+ years. Was expecting unpleasantness (bus still has it's original unwelded front panel) but fears were unfounded...

Had to remove the grill as I recently came across a circa 1970s AA badge - so thought why not - even though I've never been a member of the AA ...

Today...... I had my first go at welding. Not as easy as it looks!

Luckily not on the camper yet, just scrap metal so far.

Finally added a bumper, looks so much better. Minus the shoddy paint I’m going to eventually get sorted

Not particularly getting worse but it whines, locks in 4th gear if I coast the bus to a stop dipping the clutch and I know the main bearing has eaten into the nose cone. In the past I had to very slightly tweak the preload on the nearside drive shaft bearing because the drive shaft cup wobbled so badly it wrecked the seal and flicked oil everywhere..
It also leaks oil from the main input shaft, despite having changed the seal literally weeks ago. And having poked around in the nose cone, it has started dripping oil faster from the front of the box too.

I also fumbled the starter motor while removing it so it hung from its wiring.. and was treated to the main battery wire just falling out of a very corroded "soldered" terminal on the solenoid. While I wasnt happy about dropping it , it was interesting how it was basically not connected properly even though it looked intact , no wire whiskers..
