It may as well be Mars which is more hospitable, ….spoken by a Northener ;)

  2. I suppose there is north and north, We're in North Lincolnshire, which we think of as north, but maybe it's north east midlands to be more accurate.

Ohh and it will Chris ...we are a mere scratch on to what's happened to it in the long long past .

  5. My 2011 Volvo must be an old smoker then, as it had a new engine a year ago, it’s quite possibly less an old smoker than some compliant cars.

Thankfully my fiancée’s car is compliant for the very occasional time we drive in to London.

My tip/supermarket runabout…. a 2008 Corsa, worth at most £1500 is compliant…, struggling to see what the problem is…. doesn’t appear that brand new cars are required.

Depends where you are, if you get on the gov website it tells you which region your vehicle is or isn't compliant.

It’s compliant on Gov ULEZ site… not sure about others, but then a lot of cities are exempting all private cars………. at the moment.

NO, it will soon be in all over England and £20. Then in a year or so £30 , then up and up . Personally i think it's bound to be nationwide, and they will have to accept claiming it cuts air pollution isnt working and state that its a replacement for the fuel levy taxation and it will be payable by all road vehicles .They clearly dont want the population to have the freedom that we had five years ago .

The point I was trying to make was that many/ most older cars are exempt, other than diesel ones.
I’m pretty sure people bought diesel cars not because “ the Government says I should “, but rather because the car tax on them was low or free and they got a lot more mileage per gallon.
All those not inconsiderate savings over a typical petrol car have been conveniently forgotten…..

  12. I bought a diesel because you don’t get as many petrol XC60’s, I wouldn’t call £25 a month tax cheap either.

Was referring to earth 2000’s when I thought the push towards diesels was starting.

    Not forgotten at all.
Diesels at the time - and probably still do - have a better MPG. Properly maintained, as mine is, there's no smoke and the MOT emissions are fine.
I certainly don't remember my car tax being any lower, let alone free though.
I use less fossil fuels running it potentially because it's more economic.
I'm also not subscribing to the buy, use, chuck away after 5 years because there's a model in a prettier colour now, or the tailgate is a slightly different shape.
Up until my dirty diesel actually falls apart, I'll continue to use it happily still getting 53mpg after 198,000 miles and 22.5 years.
If I want to go somewhere with a ULEZ I'll just have to use the Morris Traveller, as apparently this is okay, but the Volvo and the Camper aren't!

(No lithium was mined in the making of this comment)

  16. Interested as to why the camper isn't ??
Mines fine - historic gives you carte blanche ...

Well that's what I thought, but decided I ought to check before making sweeping statements on here.... and it came up with the £12.50 charge. I remembered the reg correctly (!) and it's definitely registered as historic.... odd.
