But those paying a lot soon get fed up of that and change to a cleaner vehicle to avoid doing so. End result is therefore many fewer higher polluting vehicles.
Just wait a bit and electric car owners will be paying through the nose too, tax doesn't grow on trees.
Wasn't thinking specifically EV's, but yeah probably. Current ULEZ is easy to comply with by most current cars anyway, only the really old smokers that don't. It sounds like everyone is up in arms about it, but it's really only a small minority and mainly politically motivated.
Selfishly I couldn't care less at this point, you couldn't pay me enough to get within 50 miles of that there London.
True, Oil, companies, power suppliers, big businesses worldwide are doing well out of "climate change" i wonder.. if any of them have MPs on the payroll.. (worldwide... Not just uk)
Not just London though is it. Im expected to have a car available for work to travel between sites and for that, if I use it i get paid a mileage allowance that hasn't significantly increased in years and doesnt really cover the costs of car ownership. Yet I pay towards a parking levy imposed by my council to discourage car use and support "green" public transport I cant use to do the journeys to and from work anyway. And if i did use it it it aint cheap, or subsidised. If they were serious then it would be free wouldnt it!
Not free, just priced at a level where company profits are too low for them to be owned by shareholders demanding dividends.
This just about sums up the uks approach to me albeit in American!!! So let me get this straight, I go to the grocery store and buy: A pound of sliced ham in a plastic bag, a loaf of bread in a plastic bag, a gallon of milk in a plastic jug, a pack of napkins in plastic wrap, a store-made salad in a plastic tub, a plastic bottle of mustard and ketchup, but they won't give me a plastic bag to carry it home because the plastic bag is bad for the environment?
Air quality round here has gone downhill thanks to sad dick Khan. All our nice modern euro 6 busses have been replaced with outer Londons old Sh1ters. It's all about the money.
It's not gonna only be London and The M25 area, you,ll see most major cities and towns embrace ULEZ sad but true
If im giving the wrong impression I apologise. Im genuinely willing to do my bit if there was a joined up plan but all I see is stupidity and half measures adopted to be able to give the impression of doing something (is it virtue signalling. I don't know). My conscience is pretty clear in a number of areas and I've been aware of and contributed to solutions (mitigations) to some of these issues over the years but all i see is money making schemes whilst the world goes to hell in a hand cart and frankly I give in. I too think society, or the one were in is all but screwed. We've broken the planet. Likely it will fix itself eventually but it will need to get shut of us first!
Just read that the US Embassy has £14.5 million unpaid congestion charge fees going back to its introduction Also ….. The total value of unpaid debt incurred by diplomatic missions and international organisations in London is £145,411,143 between 2003 and 2022.
We went on the train last year, to go look at museums and stuff, but yes, it’s almost as grim as that north place…
"The North" is actually awesome, you get a 4 bedroom detached house with 3 car detached garage on a great plot in a nice location for less than the price of a grotty flat in the roughest part of London, and everyone is far more chilled out up here
